Sometimes, the best Valentine’s Day celebrations are experienced without leaving the comforts of home. Hardly anything sounds better than getting close with your beloved and putting on a romantic movie that would remind you of the importance of love and of course, your relationship.
If you are confused about which romantic movie to pick for this Valentine’s Day, let the following list help you out!
50 First Dates
This movie from 2004 stars the very likeable pair of Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, and is the perfect V-Day movie. Why? Because it’s not just romance, it’s really funny as well. Playboy Henry Roth, played by Adam Sandler, falls in love. However, his girlfriend suffers from short-term memory loss. The resulting events are a great mix of love, laughs, and a feel-good factor that complements Valentine’s Day perfectly.
(500) Days of Summer
A boy meets a girl, falls in love with her, and the girl likes him too. Unfortunately (for the boy), she doesn’t love him. So what does he do? (500) Days of Summer is an amazing example of a movie that focuses on love and relationships in the modern day. It never gets too serious, and it’s just funny enough to make for an enjoyable watch on V-Day.
This 1997 movie is based on events that took place in 1912, when the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean and the ship sank as a result. Doesn’t sound too romantic does it? However, the intriguing romance between Jack Dawson (Leonardo di Caprio) and Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) brings a tear to the eye, as they fight through all the obstacles in their path, including a sinking ship, just to be together. Even though the movie ends tragically (spoiler alert!), it is a must-watch on Valentine’s Day.
Featuring an ensemble star cast including the likes of Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson and Keira Knightley, Love, Actually is a story of eight British couples and eight different relationships. All the relationships have their distinct twists and turns, and it’s a great movie where you can reflect on your own relationship with your partner, and take any problems that happened with a pinch of salt. You are guaranteed to fall in love with at least a few of the characters, which is what makes this the ideal Valentine’s Day watch.
Walk the Line
If you are looking for than just romance in your V-Day movie, something along the lines of a biopic, 2005’s Walk the Line is a brilliant movie. It focuses on the romantic relationship between iconic 50s and 60s musician Johnny Cash and his second wife, June Carter. The relationship stood the test of time, and that’s a big thing when you consider the temptations of the music industry. Even though both June and Johnny have sadly passed more than a decade back, their legendary love story is bound to live on through the times.
The ultimate V-Day movie viewing experience includes not just a good movie, but a lot of food, love and gifts too. Don’t forget to decorate your interiors with flowers, and exchange tons of chocolate to set the mood for one memorable movie session. Put the icing on the cake with a dinner, before cuddling up to each other in bed.
